The Butterfly Effect (2012)

The butterfly is both the beginning and the end of a complex chain of life known as metamorphoses.

The same can be said about the twist in the tale of our lives throughout the last number of years on this island. From the economic miracles of the 'Celtic Tiger' era, when Ireland was the envy of the world to the an economic and property meltdown that is going to effect us for many generations to come.

This project is a response to the events that have happened over this period.........

  1. I think the chair piece is very effective. I like the vulnerability and the fragility of the butterflies, they are in a precarious position if the chair was used for its intended purpose! Visually, it looks great, very appealing. The comparison with our economic situation is interesting, we are the butterflies in danger of being squashed by the rather large derriere of Europe methinks.
Are the other works stills or video?

    1. Hi Val,

Here stripping a bed, not in the way one would think....alas, I have run out of nitromores. Don't want to start sanding inside as it creates so much dust, so hopefully we will get a fine day soon.

Re: the butterflies, the other two images are stills taken of a piece where an image of the european headquarters was projected on to a sheet of butterflies. They are very fragile, so I have them back in their boxes.

How is your research coming along? I feel I might be getting somewhere with Larva Sac. Looking at the idea metaphorically and references I am coming up with are formless (rather broad), Oedipel the story of.., or the interpretation of the larva sac as a safe place. In the human world where is our safe place? The home and our bed! What if it isn't safe! Thats my train of thought at the moment.
